DAVID BYAS is the latest victim of Yorkshire's 'clear out' which has already seen the departure of leading players Darren Lehmann, Michael Lumb and new captain Chris Adams.

And on top of that, former England player Anthony McGrath is also believed to have turned his back on the county as the problems at Headingley continue to mount.

Byas was sacked from his role as director of cricket at the end of last season, after three seasons in charge of the first team, and had been offered a new position as director of cricket operations, which would have involved the former skipper overseeing the Academy and grass roots cricket.

But Byas has decided (after several weeks of discussions), he does not fit into those plans.

It is just the latest close-season blow to the county, who agreed a deal in November for Chris Adams to captain and coach the side, only for the former England batsman to perform a u-turn two weeks later and stay with County Championship winners Sussex.

A statement from Yorkshire said: "It has been decided, for reasons of mutual benefit, that David will not play a role in the new structure and will move on from the club with immediate effect."

Yorkshire chief executive Stewart Regan added: "The club would like to thank David for his service to Yorkshire.

"David has been a great servant to this club over the years and we wish him well in his future. I know his best wishes remain with the club."

Yorkshire will now step up their efforts to find a new director of cricket, as well as a director of cricket operations and a first team captain.

The squad will spend five days in La Manga as part of their pre-season build-up.
