The penultimate round of Huddersfield Drakes Cricket League fixtures were all but wiped out by the weather, but a few promotion and relegation issues moved closer to being resolved.
The only action in the Drakes Premiership came in Holmfirth’s home meeting with Meltham, where the visitors managed to lose a wicket without scoring before the two relegated teams had to give in to the conditions.
With Hoylandswaine having already tied up the title in the top flight, all the interest was concentrated on the Jedi Sports Championship.
Broad Oak were already confirmed as champions in a section that saw no action ahead of the final weekend, with Moorlands in the other promotion slot. Marsden, meanwhile, lie in wait five points behind in third place waiting to pounce should there be any slip ups by the Mirfield outfit.
With Hall Bower and Emley Clarence confirmed as heading for the Cedar Court Conference, the race to replace them remains wide open.
Kirkheaton have stepped up as winners of the division, but the final day will arrive with Cumberworth United and Almondbury both on 67 points, Thurstonland and Denby on 66, and Denby Dale, on 64, all still hoping to join them at the higher level.
The Conference also saw some action with bottom of the table Paddock struggling at 36-4 at Thurstonland before they joined the abandonments.
