Damien Talbot of Huddersfield Indoor Bowls Club has clinched the Yorkshire County Singles title after an epic final at Selby IBC.

He triumphed 21-19 against S Thompson from Hull, in a game that included a power cut that forced the game to be delayed by 15 minutes when Talbot was leading 15-11.

After the delay Talbot saved match points before holding his nerve and going on to win the game in front of a big crowd.

Talbot said: “Obviously I am extremely proud to win such a prestigious title and I would like to dedicate the victory to all the bowlers from Huddersfield who, like myself, have fought hard all year and currently face an uncertain future due to the withdrawal of a new green in Kirklees.

“I would would love to represent Huddersfield again next season and defend my title! Unfortunately, this does not look promising.”

Other Huddersfield representatives in the county finals were the pairing of Scott Smith and Josh Moore.

They battled valiantly but came up short, losing to a strong pair from Featherstone, but it was still a fine achievement.
