No-one will be short of Drakes Huddersfield League cricket in Mirfield on the opening day of the 2016 season.

Not only are Moorlands at home to Thongsbridge in the Jedi Sports Championship, but newcomers Mirfield Cricket Club and Mirfield Parish Cavaliers are both at home in the third-tier Cedar Court Conference.

Mirfield CC entertain Denby Dale (on the adjoining field to Moorlands at the Memorial Ground) while the Parish Cavaliers are at home to Almondbury Wesleyans, who were relegated from the Championship last season.

Because of the odd number of teams in the Conference, Emley have no game on opening day.

In the Drakes Premiership, champions Scholes start their campaign with a trip to Shepley, who finished third last summer but 20 points adrift of the Byrom Shield winners.

Hoylandswaine, who were runners-up, 13 points back, also travel on opening day – Saturday, April 16 – to Broad Oak.

Jedi champions Cawthorne are away to Skelmanthorpe, while fellow promoted club Armitage Bridge entertain Elland.
