Promotion-chasing AFC Emley beat Grimsby Borough 4-0 at the Welfare Ground to stay top of the Northern Counties East League First Division.

Top scorer Max Leonard netted twice to take his season’s haul to 14, and there were also goals by skipper Paul Sykes, from a penalty, and Doran Jordan.

Darren Hepworth’s side visit Rossington Main on Saturday, when Emley’s development team head for Hall Green United in the semi-finals of the Sheffield FA Challenge Cup (2.00).

Before that the development team, who top the Galaxy Lancashire League East Division, play Ossett Town at the Welfare Ground (7.45).

Brighouse Town, who are third and have games in hand, drew 1-1 with Thackley on Tuesday. Callum Charlton scored after good work by Izzy Johnson.

That result means Emley can clinch the title by taking 10 points from their remaining five matches.
