Ashley Flynn scored a last-gasp leveller to earn AFC Emley a point from a 2-2 draw in their Northern Counties East League First Division opener at Rossington Main.

With the clock ticking down in Doncaster, manager Darren Hepworth told defender Sam Jerome to move up front.

It paid off as his challenge on the Rossington keeper meant the ball ran clear to Flynn, who fired in is second of the game.

It was a deserved point for the Huddersfield side, who started well.

A bumpy pitch hardly suited the vistors’ passing game, but they soon got the grips with the surface.

Hepworth picked an attacking team, with forwards Flynn and Kieran Ryan supported by wide players Jordan Corduri and Alex Hallam.

Meanwhile former Huddersfield Town junior Max Leonard was a constant menace from the middle of the pitch.

Flynn, Ryan and Leonard all testing the home keeper before Hallam’s chip hit the bar.

Jerome then had a powerful header saved.

However Rossington took the lead against the run of play on 20 minutes.

A mix-up in the Emley defence left keeper Adam Lawlor stranded, and Lee Holmes calmly lofted the ball home.

The equaliser came three minutes later.

After a prolonged period of pressure, Flynn forced the ball home after Rossington failed to clear a Michael Tunnacliffe cross.

Leonard then had a chance when put clean through, but the Rossington keeper saved with his legs.

The second-half was more even.

Rossington regained the lead after 69 minutes, when Holmes beat Lawlor with another lob.

Substitute Doran Jordan rattled the bar with a header before Flynn’s equaliser.
