Brighouse Town Ladies are back in North-East Regional Women’s League Southern Division action at home to Hull side Malet Lambert on Sunday (2.00) having reached the second round qualifying of the FA Women’s Cup.
Rob Mitchell’s team will host Liverpool side Woolton on Sunday, October 6 (2.00) having chalked up a 4-1 home win over CMB Ladies from Lancashire, with Jayne Smith, Sonya Sweeney, Rachael White and Anna Womersley on target.
There are 46 ties at the next stage, with Swindon Spitfires, the biggest winners last weekend with an incredible 18-0 victory at Quedgeley Wanderers, facing a trip to Torquay United. Malet Lambert will go to Ossett Albion.
The progress of the ladies side comes as Brighouse’s men’s first team, managed by Paul Quinn, aim to create a shock in the FA Cup second round qualifying by winning at former Football League side Stockport County on Saturday (see Page 44).
Mitchell, who is a coach for the men’s team and manages the ladies, said: “There is a real buzz around the club at the moment and confidence is sky high.
“What the first team have achieved so far is tremendous and we won’t be going to Stockport (now of the Conference North) just to make up the numbers.
“We’re hoping to give a good account of ourselves and we would urge any Huddersfield Town fans who are at a loose end to get over and lend us some support.”
Of the ladies, Mitchell said: “We are hopeful of having good runs in both the cups we enter as well as achieving our main goal of promotion, which is not beyond the realms of possibility.”
