Get Smart Kirklees Sunday League champions Linthwaite concluded their season with a 4-2 success over Dalton at Royds Hall.

The table-toppers, in heir first season in the league, didn’t have it all their own way and Dalton deservedly led 1-0 at half-time through a Courtney Allert strike.

Allert should have made it 2-0 just before the interval, but failed to round Linthwaite keeper Paul Day after getting into a good scoring position.

Just after the break Linthwaite’s Courtney Allette levelled at 1-1 and five minutes later he blasted the ball into the net for 2-1 after his colleague Elliot Wilkinson was well challenged on the edge of the penalty area, but the ball fell kindly for Allette.

Shortly afterwards Connor Beaumont made it 3-1 as Linthwaite dominated, but Dalton rallied again and Allert pulled one back on 78 minutes, after being set up by Chris Swift.

Dalton looked to be getting back in it but, 2 minutes after their goal, disaster struck when Dalton’s keeper totally miskicked when attempting a clearance and Allette robbed him and completed his hat trick to make it 4-2 with an open goal.

Dalton’s Chris Milby saw a ferocious 15 yard shot superbly tipped over by Day right at the end.

Wellington A finished the season in second place on 42 points, with Dalton level on points with Queen in joint third spot on 39 points.
