Paul Marshall can’t wait to get stuck into Tadcaster Albion when FC Halifax Town play their first pre-season friendly on Wednesday.

Manager Neil Aspin takes his team to Ings Lane (7.45) for the first of eight games during the build-up to the new Conference campaign.

The Shaymen will host Football League sides Barnsley (on Saturday), Rochdale (next Tuesday), Preston (Saturday, July 23) and Notts County (Tuesday, July 26).

But tonight’s opponents are from the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, and should provide a decent test.

“Training has been good and positive so far,” said former Manchester City, Walsall, Port Vale and Stockport midfielder Marshall.

“It looks like we have got a decent squad together and the Tadcaster game will be good.

“It’s all about getting back into the swing of things, getting fitter, and getting used to the new lads.”

Aspin has made six new signings, defenders James Bolton, Steve Williams and Kevin Roberts and forwards Richard Peniket, Scott Boden and Ross Dyer.

His side finished fifth last season, losing to Cambridge in the play-off semi-finals.
