Watch out for Cask FC!

The Golcar-based club are unbeaten in the Huddersfield Works League this season and are through to the fourth round of the West Riding County FA Trophy.

Having already knocked out Huddersfield District League opposition in Division IV Almondbury, Cask eliminated West Yorkshire League side Swillington at the third-round stage.

Cask – who won 2-1 with goals from chairman Luke Haigh and leading scorer Richard Carter – are now looking forward to taking on Craven League Ingrow & Worth Valley at the next stage in January.

“Our young manager Kieran Ellam, who has had to pack in because of a bad knee injury, is doing a cracking job,” said Haigh, who confirmed Cask will be moving to the District League next season and probably with two teams.

“We are a new team this year and we haven’t had any grants, we’ve put everything together with our own sponsorships, and it’s been going really well.

“At the moment, we are playing matches at Lindley Rec, but we are hoping to get more local next year, up to Botham Hall if we can.”

Playing out of the Old Cask Inn on Leymoor Road, Cask FC have won all eight of their Works League matches so far, scoring 44 goals while conceding just eight, and they top the table by two points from DRAM, who have played one game more.

“I was at Golcar United last season but decided to leave, and we’ve put the Cask team together from lads who were not only at Golcar with me, but from other clubs like Lepton, Holme Valley Academicals and Brook Motors,” added Haigh, who is nicely back in action after suffering ankle ligament damage in a pre-season friendly.

“We’re confident of keeping the lads together and adding a few more for next season when we move to the District League, so potentially we could have two teams next season.

“There’s a brilliant spirit in the club and everyone has fitted in well, and hopefully we can keep this good run of form going.

“We’ve been drawn against Ingrow & Worth Valley FC in the West Riding Trophy and, with another couple of good performances, we could be looking at a final at Woodlesford, which would be a really good achievement for a Works League team.”
