Huddersfield Town Ladies cruised into the county cup’s third round with a 12-0 win over Hepworth United Ladies.

Town’s goal riot in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Women’s County Challenge Cup was led by Kate Mallin and Emily Heckler and the pair combined for the opening goal when Heckler crossed for Mallin to score.

Heckler added a second in the 18th minute and then a third in the 33rd minute.

Shauna Messenger made it four for Town five minutes before half-time following some good work from Abbie Mullen.

And Mullen herself grabbed another a minute later following a cross from Heckler, but just before the break Hepworth had a good attack following a solo run from Brodie Simpson, but Town’s defence cleared the danger.

A combination of good defending and some excellent stops from Hepworth keeper Rebecca Harper kept Town at bay early in the second half, but Mallin finished well to put Town six up in the 58th minute.

On the hour Town lost their goalkeeper Laura Carter after she fractured a finger saving a shot from Hepworth’s Abbie Iggledon and was replaced in goal by Alarna Fuller.

On 67 minutes a Mallin shot struck the Hepworth post and Laura Windle scored from the rebound and Mallin completed her hat trick two minutes later following a pass from Heckler.

A minute later Laura Windle saved Fuller in Town’s goal when she cleared a Hepworth shot off the line.

Mallin then set up Heckler in the 71st minute to complete her hat trick and make it nine and then Debbie Hastings played in Messenger to score her second.

In the 80th minute Alice Linsell created the chance for Hastings to make it 11 and Hepworth’s Lucy Page unfortunately deflected a cross into her own net to make it 12.

Next Sunday Town Ladies travel to Sheffield Wednesday Ladies Reserves to play the third round (1.00).
