Huddersfield Town Ladies lost out in a 10-goal thriller against FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division joint leaders Coventry City.

They are seventh in the 12-team table after the 6-4 defeat in blustery conditions at Stratford Town.

Coventry had a chance after five minutes, but Laura Carter saved well.

On eight, a Kate Mallin free-kick was headed home by player of the match Sammy Conroy for a Town lead.

But Coventry soon levelled by scrambling home a corner.

Mallin made it 2-1 to the visitors with a well-struck free-kick in the 38th minute.

The game was levelled up again with a Coventry header on 50.

On the hour, Town introduced Beth Jennings, a former Super League player with Durham, for her club debut.

But Coventry were ahead two minutes later.

Emily Heckler headed home Mallin’s free-kick to level after 70 minutes.

But a shot from the edge of the area restored the home advantage.

Jennings had a strong effort well saved before Coventry scored twice in three minutes.

Town’s fourth came via an own goal.

There is no match for the first team this weekend.

The seconds scored a 4-1 win at Leeds Ladies in the FAWPL Reserves Northern Division.

First-half goals by Courtney Kaye, Rebecca Sherrard, Rachel Stuart and Rachel Sherrard put the visitors in the driving seat.

Town Reserves play their final league game at Guiseley Vixens on Sunday (2.00).

None of Town’s junior sides were in Sheffield and Hallamshire Girls League action at the weekend.

Both the Under 18s and 15s are in League Cup final action against Doncaster Belles on Saturday.

The Under 13s play Bawtry Juniors at Storthes Hall on Wednesday (6.30) and visit Steel City on Saturday (11.00).
