Huddersfield Town Ladies’ lack of a first-team fixture proved a bonus for the development team.

Three players turned out for the second string and helped seal a 5-2 home win over Hull City’s second team in the FA Women’s Premier League Reserves Division North.

The trio made all the difference in the opening stages.

Emily Heckler played in Kate Mallin to put Town ahead after 10 minutes.

Four minutes later Rebecca Sherrard’s shot hit a post, Heckler’s effort from the rebound was parried and Mallin scrambled the ball home.

Then in the 24th minute, Mallin crossed for Katie Lockwood to net with a header.

Hull gradually started to make some inroads.

In the 36th minute they had a good shot well saved by Town keeper Rosie Todd, then they pulled one back just before half-time.

And a misplaced clearance by Todd was neatly finished by Hull early in the second half.

But Town sealed the win with two late goals.

A delightful backheel from Mallin played in Heckler to notch, then Mallin completed her hat trick, latching on to Sherrard’s free-kick.

The unbeaten Under 16s drew 1-1 at defending Sheffield and Hallamshire Girls League champions Rotherham United Whitehill.

Rotherham were the last team to beat Town, who have had the better of the clashes since.

Windy conditions spoiled the latest meeting, and it took a superb last-ditch tackle by captain Laura Walker and a fine diving save by Isobel Pare to keep the scores level early on,

Town took a 24th-minute lead trough Ella Harris, who finished off a Jodie Lodge pass.

But there was controversy as Town were denied a penalty before Rotherham countered and claimed an equaliser.

Claudia Smith Calvert was brought off the bench but the player of the match missed two great opportunities to put Town back ahead before half-time.

There were hopes that Town would dominate the second half with the wind at their backs, but this was not to be.

Neither side looked like scoring and an injury to Tara Duce meant Town’s normally reliable corners were ineffective.

Saturday’s game is at home to Wickersley Youth (10.30).

The Under 14s claimed a hard-fought 4-2 home win over Barnsley Ladies.

While Town had chances, most notably for Harriet Waller, Molly Ellis, Macy Ellis, Alicia Marriott, Jess Barrow, Gwen Hughes and Jemima Wood, the South Yorkshire side had a two-goal half-time lead.

Town then upped their game after the break with star player Frances Keddie leading a solid defensive effort alongside Nadya Longstaff, Abigail Crabtree and Sophie Jackson-Sharpe.

Macy Ellis pulled a goal back, then when Courtney Livsey had a shot parried, Waller turned the ball home.

Livsey made it 3-2 when she reacted quickest after a free-kick hit a post.

Then Waller sealed the win with a header.

The Under 12s beat Shaw Lane Aquaforce 7-0.

Town found it difficult to break down a stubborn visiting defence to start with, but the breakthrough came when Isobella Kington played in Amiee Nuttall, who finished well.

Player of the match Alex McKie twice hit the woodwork before Laura Hulme doubled the lead a minute into the second half.

Kington, Hulme, Erin Kay, Jada Simon and Millie Rumnie then netted.

Neither the Under 14s nor the Under 12s have a game this weekend.
