Huddersfield  Town Ladies won their second straight game against Tranmere Rovers and this time their quality brought the goals they had been threatening as they won 5-0.

Town started brightly as they created a couple of chances and restricted their opposition to shots from distance against goalkeeper Charlotte Oates.

In the 35th minute Town were awarded a penalty for handball and Emily Heckler stepped up but put her shot over the bar.

Three minutes later and Heckler’s bad luck continued when she thundered a shot against the Tranmere crossbar as the first half ended goalless.

Debbie Hastings was introduced at half-time, replacing the injured Alice Linsell, and was in inspired form.

In the 53rd minute, Oates pulled off a good save and threw the ball out as Town counter-attacked in numbers.

Kate Mallin put substitute Hastings through on goal and she put the home side in front.

Six minutes later and Hastings repaid the favour by crossing the ball into the area for Mallin to finish.

With 15 minutes remaining Town were awarded a second penalty, again for handball. This time Mallin stepped up and placed the ball into the corner of the Tranmere net.

In the 78th minute Hastings set up Abbie Mullen who made it four and two minutes later Hastings broke clear to complete the scoring.

With other results going Town’s way, the win moved them up to within a point of league leaders Stockport County – with a game in hand.

Marriott did level the scores two minutes later with a good finish.

Marriott levelled the scores within two minutes of going behind and then put her team ahead when she scored her third of the game, direct from a corner, two minutes later.

An excellent solo run and finish from Olivia Burgin put Town three goals clear a minute later.
