Huddersfield Town Ladies Under 16 and 14 sides are both top of their Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls’ League divisions.

The 16s bounced back from successive defeats to seal a 6-3 win at Aston Swallownest.

Forwards Katie Lockwood and Jess Holland stretched the Aston defence early on, and when the latter won a free-kick, Maddie Walsh netted.

The second was a contender for goal of the season as Lockwood collected the ball with her back to goal just outside the centre circle and beat two opponents before drilling home a 25-yard shot.

Aston pulled a goal back, but Holland restored the two-goal cushion, and captain Laura Neimantas and her fellow full-back Sian Lewis were outstanding as the home side were kept at bay.

Town went 4-1 up early in the second half when Lockwood scored her second of the game after a quick release from keeper Emelia Samuels.

Lockwood twice hit the woodwork before Lauren Buckley scored Town’s fifth and sixth goals, both created by strong running and shots from left winger Walsh which were parried.

Aston scored twice, from a corner and a penalty, but Town’s defensive display was far stronger than the scoreline suggests, with Alex Bailey and player of the match Beth Halligan both catching the eye.

The 14s thumped Dearne and District 16-0.

Player of the match Amy Broomhead scored seven and there were hat tricks for Lauren Bullock and Olivia Bennett, two by Ella Harris and one for Laura Walker.

The Under 12s lost 3-2 at Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

Macy Ellis put Town in front, and then when another shot hit a post, twin sister Molly scored from the rebound.

But the Barnsley side pulled one back before the break, then scored twice in the final five minutes for victory.
