Huddersfield Town Ladies reserves took centre stage with a welcome first win of the campaign.

While the firsts’ scheduled Sheffield & Hallamshire Women’s Cup clash with Swinton Athletic was postponed because the visitors couldn’t raise a side – Town go through to the second round, to be played on December 15 – the seconds were 6-1 winners in their Women’s Premier League Reserve North Division clash at Sheffield United Community Ladies.

Town have been producing better performances of late, and went ahead just five minutes into the game, when Shauna Messenger finished well after good work by Jodie Berry and Debbie Hastings.

United soaked up a spell of pressure, then equalised on the counter attack.

Hastings hut a post after 32 minutes, then put Town back in front with a tenacious run and finish.

Messenger headed home from captain Emma Poole’s corner, then Hastings grabbed her second of the game to make it 4-1.

The home side were stronger at the start of the second half, but Town stood firm, and Hastings completed her hat trick before 16-year-old Lauren Pritchard completed the win with a sizzling shot.

While the firsts head to Liverpool to take on new Northern Women’s Combination leaders Mossley Hill on Sunday, the reserves travel to Derby County, both games kicking off at 2.00.

Town’s three junior sides were all in Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls’ League Cup action.

The Under 16s romped to a 16-0 win at Adwick Allstars, who could only field nine players.

Playing down a slope in the first half, Town ran in 11 goals, the first through Maddie Walsh.

Keeper Emilia Samuels stayed alert to pull off a smart late save to maintain Town’s clean sheet.

Walsh and Katie Lockwood both finished with four goals. Central defender Alex Bailey staked her claim to play higher up the field with her first two goals of the season, while Lauren Buckley and Jess Holland also got doubles. Chloe Hellawell got one, and there was also an own goal.

Amy Broomhead levelled but Millmoor got another cheap goal when Pare’s scrambled clearance took a ricochet for an easy finish.

Town were stronger in the second half, and levelled after 68 minutes, when Laura Walker scored.

Eleanor Smith scored a screamer six minutes into extra time, and from then on, Town dominated.

Pare was named player of the match for the home side, who play host to Millmoor in a league game at Grange Moor on Saturday (10.30).

The Under 12s were beaten 3-2 at Barnsley, despite going in front through Macy Ellis, who ran from halfway and chipped the keeper.

It was 1-1 by the break, and Olivia Beaumont hit a post before Gwen Hughes had a decent effort saved.

Barnsley went ahead with 15 minute left, Town failing to clear a corner, then made it 3-1 after Meg Howarth parried the initial shot.

Player of the match Olivia Burgin pulled one back, but Barnsley the held Town at bay.
