Kirkburton were crushed 5-1 at the hands of Storthes Hall in the West Riding County Premier.

After conceding five goals in their Premier Cup game against Lower Hopton last week, Burton tried to tighten up their defence with the introduction of Jack Peacock in goal and player-manager Richard Kettlewell at right back, but the changes proved to be in vain.

The home side shipped in their first goal when ex-Kirkburton player Gavin Armatage skipped past Kettlewell before sending a cross to were Marcus Walmsley was on hand to slide in and poke the ball home after 15 minutes.

Bryn Jenkins then managed to pick out Walmsley in the area, who finished confidently to earn himself a brace.

Kirkburton, who looked sluggsish throughout, manage to muster some resolve just before the break, when Jordan Tindle got on the end of Kettlewell’s cross to head home and make it 2-1 going into half-time.

Burton looked like a rejuvenated team at the start of the second half and should have equalised through Tindle, who blasted his effort over the bar in the 60th minute after the ball bobbled just as he strick his shot.

Just five minutes later Tom Richter was unlucky not to score when his shot rebounded off the foot of a post.

But the home side’s resolve was broken in the 70th minute when Storthes Hall’s man of the match Armatage made it 3-1, before notching his second five minutes later to take the game out of Burton’s reach.

The visitors completed the scoring in the 87th minute when referee, Colin Wood, awarded Storthes Hall a penalty for a handball which allowed Walmsley to step up and complete his hat-trick.

Kirkburton now sit 11th in the table, and with no quick fix in sight they could easily slip into a relegation dog fight.

It was a shock result after Burton won the reverse fixture at Warrenside, but Storthes Hall were a different prospect in the return.
