Get Smart Kirklees Sunday League leaders Linthwaite need just a point to clinch the title.

Linthwaite, in their debut season in the league, narrowly defeated lowly Meltham Victoria 4-3 and the scorers for Linthwaite were Declan James-Thomas, Daniel Walker (2) and Elliot Wilkinson, with replies from Meltham’s Dave Tindall, Craig Vant and Nicky Whiteley.

Linthwaite, currently on 45 points, have to play Walkers Hounds away on May 10 and Dalton at home on May 17.

Dalton, who have two games remaining, also play Hounds away on May 13, can draw level with Linthwaite if the leaders lose their remaining games and Dalton win.

The same applies to Wellington Westgate A, who have four games remaining against Golcar Con, Queen, Mooreside Colts and Walkers Hounds.

Bottom of the table Wellington B completed their season with a 5-0 defeat against Field Head.

The Lockwood Private Hire Trophy final will be between Golcar Con and Walkers Hounds at Lepton Highlanders tomorrow (2pm).

Walkers are in fifth position in the league, with Golcar second bottom.

Golcar Con reached the final beating Field Head 5-3 on aggregate over the two legs of their semi-final, while Walkers defeated Queen 8-6.

Wellington Westgate A secured the Huddersfield and District FA Sunday Challenge Cup with an emphatic 11-1 victory against fellow KSL team, Walkers Hounds at Warrenside.

The victory completed a treble of successes, following their retentions of the West Riding County FA Sunday Challenge trophy and the KSL Get Smart Cup.

Walkers Hounds and Holme Valley Academicals footballer Paul Turnbull was seriously injured in a car accident on March 7 and is critically ill.

A friendly game has been arranged between the Hounds and H V Academicals at Longfield Avenue, Golcar on Friday, May 22 (6.30) kick-off to raise funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
