AFC Emley made a disappointing start to their Toolstation Northern Counties East League First Division campaign, losing 1-0 at Penistone Church.

Now the Huddersfield side aim to bounce back in Saturday’s FA Cup preliminary round tie at Manchester team Maine Road.

Dale Kelly’s 24th-minute goal settled the derby at Penistone.

“Worked hard but we weren’t good enough in the final third. Looking forwards to fixing it on Saturday,” tweeted Emley manager Darren Hepworth.

Maine Road play in the North West Counties League Premier Division, one level above Emley on the pyramid.

Honley are top of the embryonic West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division table.

Matthew Sykes scored twice as they beat Overthorpe 5-1 to make it two wins from two.

Defending champions Huddersfield YMCA were held 1-1 by Newsome at Laund Hill.

And in another derby, Golcar United beat DRAM Community 5-3.

Lepton Highlanders drew 2-2 at Lower Hopton but Kirkburton went down 3-1 at Littletown.

Saturday’s games involving Huddersfield clubs are DRAM Community vs Salts, Halifax Irish vs Kirkburton, Huddersfield YMCA vs Lepton Highlanders, Overthorpe vs Honley, Newsome vs Golcar United.
