Two of the three Kirklees Sunday League clubs in the West Riding Trophy first round won through.

Walkers Hounds and Linthwaite progressed, but Dalton were defeated 2-1 in a thrilling tie, where visitors Chapel Allerton won thanks to a last-minute goal – against the run of play.

Despite Dalton having the better opportunities, Chapel Allerton scored on 19 minutes when Dalton failed to make a tackle on the edge of their box and an opponent dispatched a fierce shot into the net.

Dalton deservedly levelled on 61 minutes through captain Reece Nyland and should have won it on 76 when Luke Haigh fluffed his lines with the goal at his mercy from two yards out – the ball landing gently in a grateful keeper’s arms!

Chapel tired towards the end and Dalton pressed – Ben Brook hitting the bar – but they could not score and, heartbreakingly, the visitors grabbed the winner on the break in the last minute

Walkers Hounds beat Throstle Nest United away by a margin of 7-1 and will travel to Overthorpe Sports Club in Round Two.

On target for Hounds were Nicky Shaw, Jordan Burnham, Edward Szostak, Matthew Blakely (3) and Connor Sykes.

A much tighter away affair featured Linthwaite defeating FC Liversidge 2-1, and the Colne Valley side now face Westleigh Wizard in another away tie.

Last season’s semi-finalists Linthwaite had to work hard to eventually overcome thier Heavy Woollen Division I opponents.

Linthwaite’s Steven Richards broke the deadlock close to half time after the ball fell for him to hit a neat snap-shot in at the near post.

The second half was feisty and well-contested, but Linthwaite went further ahead when Siddiq was brought down in the box and Courtney Allett put away the penalty.

Liversedge were given a lifeline when Linthwaite defender Sam Holmes played a pass straight against an incoming striker and the ball rolled into the net.

For the final 15 minutes Linthwaite held on well and soaked up any pressure, while creating some chances for themselves.

In an eventful league game at Paddock CC, Golcar Conservative managed to recover from 2-0 down to 2-2 against Linthwaite Reserves, after being reduced to nine men!

Linthwaite Reserves started strongly with some positive midfield runs from Danny Garton and Callum Harriot-Brown and went one goal up with a fantastic volley from Nicky Pike. Then, on 25 minutes, left back Matthew Hemmingway played a fantastic ball into Golcar’s box for Pike to head home at the back post.

Just 10 minutes into the second half Golcar came on strong with numerous corners and keeper Clayton Phillips pulled off a world-class save to deny them.

Golcar were getting frustrated and matters came to a head in a fracas which resulted in two Golcar players being sent off.

Strangely, this seemed to galvanise the nine men and, on the hour, their hopes were raised when Aaron Baxter launched a free-kick into the area for player-manager Ben Elam to head home.

Golcar then drew level 17 minutes from time when Max Zito found space out wide to cross for Matt Anderson to curl the ball into the corner of the net.

Baxter went close to sealing the game with an overhead kick, while Pike and Martin Poole had chances for Linthwaite, but it stayed 2-2.

Linthwaite boss Martin Wilkinson said: “I feel a bit deflated as we have played every game with passion and 100% effort and, after last week’s win and being two goals up, I feel it’s two points lost.”

FC Nightingale moved up to sixth after beating home side Meltham Victoria Park 2-1 at Broadlands.

Meltham were missing key players such as Joe Baum, Michael Dolan, Dan Tindall, Harrison Hoare, Sam Sykes, Nicky Whitely and Craig Vant, but credit must go to Nightingale for the creditable victory.

They went ahead after five minutes through a free-kick from Liam Madigan and doubled their advantage five minutes later through the same player, after the Meltham goalkeeper had dropped a cross.

Nightingale missed a number of chances to extend their lead and Meltham had a lot of possession at the start of the second half before pulling a goal back with a stunning 25-yard free-kick from Jack Ellis-Pownell.

Dan Waddington and Matt Cumiskey had efforts cleared off the line as Nightingale pressed, while Meltham had another free-kick tipped over by visiting keeper Pete Liversidge.
