Confident Underbank Rangers are hoping for a quick-fire home double to catapult them into the top four of National Conference League Division I.

Victory over fourth-placed Myton Warriors at The Cross tomorrow (2.30) would take seventh-placed Rangers into the leading pack.

And if they then backed that up with a second home win over struggling Elland next Wednesday, coach Richard Knight’s men could find themselves on the verge of a dream promotion scrap.

This weekend’s cause hasn’t been helped by the news strike centre Adam Ryder has joined Kingstone Press Championship club Halifax on a month’s trial – just days after he and prop teammate Craig Williams were named in the initial England Lions train-on squad for November’s tour to Fiji.

But having just notched a 52-20 home win over an Ince Rose Bridge side who beat them 44-4 at the start of the season, Knight fully expects his side to maintain their winning form this weekend and beyond.

“We are going along pretty nicely,” said Knight, whose club is competing at Conference League Division I level for the first time in its history.

“With each game we’re playing at this level, the more comfortable we’re feeling. The fact we scored over 50 points last week against a side who beat us by 40 at the start of the season proves that.

“But the last thing we’re doing is taking anything for granted. While we know a couple of wins over the next few days would get us into the top four, we also know that a couple of defeats would drop us back into the relegation zone. That’s how tight this division is.

“Having said that, I’ve got complete faith in this squad to go out and do a good job tomorrow and then in next Wednesday’s re-arranged game against Elland.

“We will be without a couple of players, including Adam Ryder whose on trial at Halifax, and Chris Druett and Danny Bravo, whose knocks we don’t want to risk, but we’re looking good in the pack and I expect them to lead the challenge.

“I thought using Mitch Turner at hooker and then bringing Stephen Berry off the bench worked really well, and with the rest of the forwards all showing good form, I fully expect them to be too strong.”
