FC Halifax Town defender Marc Roberts is reportedly a target for Sky Bet Championship outfit Birmingham City.

The 24-year-old central defender, who is an England non-League international, has played 29 games for the Shaymen this season and joined the club in the summer of 2013 from Buxton after starting out at hometown club FC Wakefield and then playing for Worksop.

Meanwhile, The Shaymen are in good shape to face Vanarama Conference Premier leaders Barnet at The Shay on Saturday after moving up to sixth in the table.

The Shaymen climbed towards the play-off places with a 1-0 win over AFC Telford United at the New Bucks Head where a Matt Pearson goal separated the teams and manager Neil Aspin was proud of his players’ efforts.

“Any win is a good win and, like I have said before, in this league anyone from the bottom to the top can beat each other,” said Aspin.

“We were very respectful of Telford because they were on a good run, but we knew that we could get a result and by no means did we just turn up here and expect to get a result.

“It was a very hard game and a hard earned three points.”

Commenting on the injuries and suspensions currently affecting the squad, Aspin admitted it is not an ideal situation for an already small squad.

“It is not ideal but we have coped and we have to keep coping,” he added. “The players here do fantastically well in my opinion and keep churning out results.”
