Huddersfield Town will be without influential midfielder Dean Whitehead for six to eight weeks because of the knee injury he picked
up at Birmingham City on Saturday.

The ex-Middlesbrough man tweeted the results of a scan and wrote: "Gutted I can't help the lads in the busy Christmas period.

"I feared more serious injury but I'll be working my hardest to get back asap.

I'm a fan for the next six to eight weeks,"

It's the first injury suffered by the 33-year-old former Oxford United, Sunderland and Stoke City player since he moved from Middlebrough during the close-season.

The only one of Town's 20 games Whitehead has missed was the 2-2 Championship draw at Reading last month due to a one-match ban for reaching five yellow cards.

His injury could prompt a return to the starting side for Jonathan Hogg, an unused substitute in the 2-0 win at Birmingham, when Town host Bristol City this Saturday.
