Huddersfield Town's final match of the Championship season at Blackpool was abandoned after a pitch invasion by home supporters.

It was 0-0 two minutes into the second half at Bloomfield Road when fans protesting about the running of Blackpool by chairman Karl Oyston went onto the playing surface.

Referee Mick Russell immediately took the players off the pitch.

There was a tannoy announcement 19 minutes later that he wanted to continue the match, but fans refused to move from the centre circle.

Police and stewards made no attempt to move them away and, after one hour and nine minutes, police moved to the edge of the pitch.

Four minutes later it was finally announced the match was abandoned for safety reasons and people were asked to leave the stadium.

After attempts by some Blackpool fans to climb into the directors box were repelled, the playing area was finally cleared and Town fans, who had waited very patiently, made their way home.

On the field...

Mark Hudson was the pick of a solid show from Town as they edged towards extending their unbeaten run to seven matches in a goalless first half.

The skipper commanded at the back while Chris Powell's side had the better of possession and chances.

Powell made three changes, bringing in loanee Reece James for Joe Wilkinson, Joe Lolley for Sean Scannell and James Vaughan for Nahki Wells, who is suffering a groin injury which is said not to be serious.

Will Boyle was brought onto the bench along with fellow development player Philip Billing, while Jonathan Hogg missed out completely because of a knee niggle.

Blackpool also made three changes, while manager Lee Clark named only six substitutes on a day when Bloomfield Road witnessed protests against the running of the club by chairman Oyston and Town had 2,350 followers in the ground.

Those included cyclists taking part in Pedal for Pounds 6 and the Team Three Towers riders who had cycled from Paris.

Town lined up 4-4-2 with Lolley on the right, and it was his first-minute pass which released Tommy Smith to cross for Vaughan, but the striker was off balance and volleyed wide.

Joel Lynch and Smith then received treatment after suffering knocks at the same time, the former rising well to clear a Jamie O'Hara free kick in the next attack.

Skipper Mark Hudson headed over from a Jacob Butterfield corner on 11 minutes as both teams struggled to cope with a bobbly pitch.

Blackpool had a chance on 15 when Dom Telford broke down the right and cut inside, but his shot was well blocked by Hudson.

Town went close three times in a minute.

Firstly Lolley was denied by keeper Ell Parish after an excellent run, before the keeper somehow managed to block Ishmael Miller's follow-up and. From the resulting corner, Lynch headed inches wide.

Miller, showing plenty of strength to hold the ball, fired a cracking drive Just over after Blackpool's Darren O'Dea had been booked for persistent infringement, then both sets of fans were on their feet as Peter Clarke sent in a 40 yard drive which Alex Smithies just managed to claw away.
