Huddersfield Town fought out a goalless draw in their Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday - but had an amazing escape.

Scotland international striker Stevie May hit both the underside of the bar and the inside of the right-hand post with a sizzling75th-minute shot.

Teammate Royston Drenthe had a late drive well saved, while Town substitute Nahki Wells could have won it, but fired straight at keeper Keiren Westwood.

The first half was even and with both sides having centre-backs tothank for crucial clearances.

Wednesday's Tom Lees thwarted Sean Scannell as he lunged towards Tommy Smith's cross while Joel Lynch blocked a well-struck shot by Stevie May.

Town keeper Joe Murphy, making his league debut after Alex Smithies was ruled out by a back problem, then came out of his area to clear from May.

Both sides had on-loan midfielders making debuts, West Ham's Diego Poyet for Town and Watford's Lewis McGugan for Wednesday.

Poyet looked calm and composed in a deep anchor role while McGugan supplied the through ball which set up May for the clash which left Murphy needing treatment.
