Huddersfield Town fell victim to two set-piece strikes, and missed a penalty, as they were condemned to a third defeat in four games.

Harry Bunn pulled a goal back late on, but Bristol City held out for a first win in five to leapfrog Town in the Championship table.

Jonathan Kodjia and Aden Flint headed home from free-kicks either side of teammate Frank Fielding's spot-kick save from Emyr Huws as the visitors led by two at the break.

Teams

Huddersfield Town: Steer, Smith, Hudson, Crainie, Chilwell, Hogg, Huws (Dempsey 17), Scannell, Paterson (Miller 45), Lolley, Wells (Bunn 61).

Bristol City: Fielding, Bennett, Ayling, Flint, Moore, Bryan, Smith, Pack, Freeman (Little 89), Wilbraham (Agard 75), Kodjia (Cox 78).

First half

Huddersfield Town found themselves trailing after just seven minutes when Jonathan Kodjia headed Bristol City ahead from Marlon Pack's free-kick.

And there was even more frustration for home fans when Emyr Huws missed an 11th-minute penalty.

Frank Fielding saved his spot kick after defender Luke Ayling's foul on Nahki Wells.

Town were finding it hard to create any real momentum, and it took a good save by Jed Steer to thwart Aaron Wilbraham.

But the home keeper was beaten in the 29th minute, when centre-back Aden Flint headed home from Luke Freeman's free-kick, with Town's offside claims rejected.

Nahki Wells (twice) and Joe Lolley had shots saved by Fielding as Bristol protected their lead through to the break.

Second half

Town started the second half with Ishmael Miller on in place of Jamie Paterson (Huws had been replaced by Kyle Dempsey during the opening period).

Steer has to claw away an awkward cross by left-back Joe Bryan before his opposite number Ben Chilwell shot narrowly wide for Town.

Wells had a fierce 59th-minute shot parried by Fielding, with Sean Scannell unable to keep the rebound down.

It was to prove the last action of the game for the limping Wells, who made way for Harry Bunn in Town's final change on the hour.

Wide players Scannell and Lolley were Town's liveliest performers and the latter came close with a low shot which skimmed the outside of the left-hand post.

Town finally found a way through in the 84th minute when Bunn shot into the top corner from long range.

Then keeper Fielding saved his side by using his legs to block from Dempsey.
