TOWN booked a League I play-off place in style as they thumped Stockport 6-0 while Colchester were held 1-1 at home to Tranmere.

Town got off to a flying start when ex-Stockport man Anthony Pilkington fired them in front from Theo Robinson's pull-back after just 95 seconds, the shot taking a deflection off defender Sam Barnes to fox keeper Owain fon Williams.

Robinson doubled the lead in the 37th minute when he shot home on the turn after a surging run into the penalty area by Danny Drinkwater.

Top scorer Jordan Rhodes touched home his 23rd goal of the season from close range in the 67th minute after Barnes' attempted clearance from Pilkington's cross hit a post and rebounded across the face of goal.

Gary Roberts came close in the 80th minute when his goalbound shot from Drinkwater's cross beat fon Williams, but Andy Halls cleared off the line.

Drinkwater did make it four in the 84th minute when he fired home direct from a 20-yard free-kick following a foul on substitute Nathan Clarke.

And Roberts registered when he shot home from Drinkwater's pass a minute into time added on.

Substitute Lee Novak completed the rout from the penalty spot a minute later after a foul by Barnes on Novak.
