Today is the 20th anniversary of Huddersfield Town's 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers in the Second Division play-off final.

Town secured their place in the second tier for the first time in 7 years thanks to goals from Andy Booth and Chris Billy to see off the Pirates, who hit back through future Town striker Marcus Stewart.

It was the Terriers' first win at Wembley in five attempts following their failings in the 1928. 1930 and 1938 FA Cup finals, as well as the 1994 Football League Trophy reverse to Swansea City just over 12 months previously.

Here's a step-by-step timeline of how the match unfolded.

Time Line

1994/95 Play-off final - Huddersfield Town 2-1 Bristol Rovers

  1. Chris Billy chance!

Ronnie Jepson feeds Andy Booth down the left wing and the striker in turn looks to pick out Chris Billy, but Bristol Rovers left-back Andy Gurney gets across to clear the ball over the crossbar.

  2. Bristol Rovers go close!

Worrell Sterling is given far too much time and room on the right-hand side to pick out a pass and he finds Justin Skinner onrushing behind the Town defence, but the midfielder's effort is tame and straight at Steve Francis in the Town goal.

  3. GOAL! Andy Booth!

Booth gives Town the lead with his 30th of the season by nodding in after Ronnie Jepson's overhead kick was flicked on by first Darren Bullock and then Pat Scully, before Booth's header beyond Brian Parkin.

  4. GOAL! Marcus Stewart!

Disaster for Town as Bristol Rovers hit straight back through Stewart. A Sterling throw-in is only half-cleared by Tom Cowan and Justin Channing returns it into the six-yard box for Stewart to acrobatically hook home.

  5. Bristol Rovers go close!

Channing gets away down the left and clips a cross into the head of Stewart, who forces Francis to tip over his own crossbar with a bullet header.

  6. Town so close to a winner!

A long ball over the top is flicked on by Booth from in front of a Bristol Rovers body, but his header is turned over the bar by Rovers goalkeeper Parkin.

  7. Bristol Rovers even closer!

The dangerous Stewart steps inside onto his left foot from the right flank and past Tom Cowan, but his bending shot towards the far top corner is just wide.

  8. GOOOOAAAAALLL! Chris Billy!

Town are back in front and it's Billy who gets the goal, stooping to send a diving header beyond the despairing grasp of Parking after substitute Iain Dunn had crossed for Booth to head back across goal!

  9. Superb Francis save!

Bristol Rovers sub Marcus Browning unleashes a rocket from range, but sees his strike tipped over the bar by the alert Francis!

  10. So, so close...

Rovers come within a whisker of a leveller as Stewart takes aim from just outside the penalty area and sees a shot cannon back off the crossbar, before sub Browning somehow misses the follow-up by blazing over the bar.

  11. FULL-TIME!

That's it, it's all over at Wembley and Huddersfield Town can look forward to football in Division One next season after securing a 2-1 win!
