HUDDERSFIELD'S Academy side ended a run of three League defeats with a hard-fought 7-3 triumph at Heath.

Good work from Scott Quarmby, Simon Brook, Matt Booth and Tom Sharrock put the visitors on the front foot from the start.

But it was only in the second half when Huddersfield finally gained the upper hand.

The breakthough came when full-back Tom Morgan displayed quick thinking and a great turn of speed to out-fox the Heath backline and race over for a well-deserved Huddersfield try.

Hooker Lee Joyce converted to give his side a lead they were never to lose.

Heath did exert some late pressure and reduced the deficit with a penalty, while skipper Nick Rodgers was forced to pull off a great cover-tackle to save a certain try.

But despite fielding just 14 players and having no substitutes, the visitors held on to secure an excellent victory.

It was far more comfortable for the Under 16s as they stormed to a 36-5 victory at Baildon.

By half-time, Huddersfield were on the road to victory, opening up a 17-5 lead with tries from Tom Mason, Rob Heywood and Harry Rosser and a Chris Brook goal.

And in the second half they tightened the screw, adding further tries from Elliott Moores, Mason and Heywood and goals from Brook to seal a victory in which hooker John Birkett was named the man-of-the-match.

The result was even more impressive for the Under 13s, winning 42-0 at Wetherby to reach the second round of the Yorkshire Cup for the first time.

The hosts had no answer to Huddersfield's total rugby, with Louis Cooper leading the tryscoring with four, Steph Harvey crossing twice and Joseph Graham and Edward Black adding the others.

Jake Burgess added the conversion.
