AFC Emley head to Worksop to face Handsworth Parramore on Tuesday (7.45) aiming to maintain their unbeaten pre-season record.

Their hosts are newly formed by the merger of Handsworth, who won last season’s Sheffield County Senior League title but didn’t meet the necessary ground criteria for promotion to the Northern Counties East League, and Worksop Parramore, who finished fourth in the NCEL Premier Division.

The club will continue to play at Parramore’s current base at Sandy Lane with the aim of upgrading the facilities at Handsworth, in Sheffield, in order to attract support from a wider catchment area.

Emley, who host a Town XI on Thursday (7.00) ahead of Saturday’s NCEL First Division opener at Grimsby Borough, go into the game full of confidence after yet another impressive performance on Friday, when they held Brighouse Town to a goalless draw at the Welfare Ground.

Despite the blank sheets, the match was an entertaining end-to-end affair.

Brighouse, freshly promoted to the Northern Premier League, went nearest to breaking the stalemate when they hit the bar in the 1st half and a post near the end.

A well-hit shot from 20 yards took a deflection off an Emley defender and wrongfooted keeper Adam Lawlor, but the rebound bounced back into his hands.
