AFC EMLEY sealed a 10th-placed finish in the Northern Counties East League First Division with a 3-1 home win over Worsbrough Bridge.

Goals by Scott Hargreaves (2) and Mark Stuart enabled them to leapfrog the Barnsley side and head into the close-season break in good spirits.

Defences were on top in a goalless first half during which Dean Wharam rattled the Worsbrough bar with a cracking 25-yard strike.

Emley made a flying start to the second half when Wharam forced Liam McFadyen into making a poor backpass.

Keeper James Jenkinson could only clear into the path of Hargreaves, who steered the ball home from the edge of the box.

Jenkinson thwarted Wharam in a one-on-one, and Worsbrough had a spell of pressure before Emley struck twice in three minutes.

Wharam again created the first, on 71 minutes, when he controlled the ball and set up Stuart, who finished neatly, then Chris Wdowczyk’s corner was powered home by Hargreaves.

The visitors pulled one back in the final minute when keeper Luke Herriott, standing in for illness-hit Mick Clark, fumbled a cross for McFadyen to score.
