DANNY WARD caught Town boss Lee Clark’s eye with a two-goal salvo against Brentford then pledged: “We can win the play-offs.”

Having signed off the regular season with a 4-4 stalemate at the Galpharm, where Lee Novak and Benik Afobe also scored, Town head to Bournemouth for the semi-final first leg on Saturday (12.45) before hosting the South coast side a week on Wednesday.

On-loan Bolton winger Ward was a beaten finalist when at Swindon last season and firmly believes Town have what it takes to get to the Sunday, May 29 final against Peterborough or MK Dons at Old Trafford – and win!

“It certainly wasn’t our best performance against Brentford, but we didn’t lose and as long as we retain our focus, we’ll be fine,” said the 19-year-old.

“I certainly believe we have the players to succeed – we’ve got youth, we’ve got experience and we’ve got variety.

“We’ve got a great chance and we’re really looking forward to the games.”

Bournemouth lost 2-1 at home to Rochdale, but boss Lee Bradbury insisted: “We played some good football and were the better side.”
