TOWN Reserves had a nightmare journey to Nottingham – then got mugged by Forest.
The Town’s team bus didn’t arrive at the City Ground until 6.45 because of hold-ups on the M1, so the kick-off was put back 30 minutes to 7.30 for a crowd of 203.
Once the action got under way, Forest took command of the Pontin’s Holidays League Division I Central clash, but they didn’t take the lead until the stroke of half time.
Keeper Alex Smithies, who had earlier made a brilliant save from Emile Sinclair, could not prevent the same player netting on the stroke of half time after some hesitant defending.
Smithies also did well to save when Ben Fairclough raced clear, but Town looked a different proposition after a half-time rollicking from coach John Dungworth.
Danny Racchi had a long-range effort tipped wide and then, just a minute later, the unmarked Lucas Akins scored from a Daniel Broadbent cross with 54 minutes on the clock.
Even though Town dug in, they went behind again to a goal by Matt Thornhill and couldn’t recover a second time.
Town, who had Luke Malcher booked on the stroke of half time, are next in action against Wolves at the Galpharm next Wednesday, when the kick-off is 7pm.
Town – Smithies, Racchi, Jackson, Bailey, T Clarke, Codman, Malcher, Berrett (Nightingale HT), Akins, Broadbent, Schofield (Pickering 76). Subs not used: Roberts, Harris, Brook.
