BAY Athletic need two wins from their four remaining matches to be sure of a record-breaking fourth consecutive West Riding County Amateur League title.

The Huddersfield aces took a huge step towards earning their place in the record books by winning 2-0 at Albion Sports, their only rivals for the crown.

Steve Perrin and Kitson Gayle grabbed the vital goals at the Myra Shay ground in Bradford to give Bay a five point lead at the top with a game in hand.

The visitors had to play against the slope in the first half, but defenders Liam Rothery and Lincoln Adams were in fine form.

On the one occasion Albion did get through, Graham McLachlan made a great save from the lively Alex Cusack.

John Buckley, Gayle and Danny Naidole then combined to set up Bay’s Mat Mulvihill, whose shot was saved.

The breakthrough goal came after 59 minutes when Naidole played a great ball into the path of Perrin, who netted with a rising first-time shot.

Naidole was again at the heart of the move which led to the clincher on 72 minutes, receiving Brighton Mugadza’s pass and setting up Gayle for his 26th goal of the season.

Bay are back in Bradford tomorrow, when they take on Wibsey, and go to Keighley to face Steeton on Saturday.

They have a derby clash with Storthes Hall at Woodfield Park next Monday and wrap up their fixtures at home to Tyersal on Saturday week.
