BAY Athletic have marked their history-making fourth consecutive West Riding County Amateur League title by unveiling ambitious plans to set up a new academy team.
Further details and trial dates are to be announced soon as the Huddersfield club aim to maintain their growth.
The former District League club put the seal on their latest title triumph, which bettered the three-in-a-row successes of Guiseley (1933-35) and Dudley Hill Athletic (1975-77) by winning 4-1 at Steeton, a result which put them 11 points clear of nearest challengers Albion Sports.
Danny Naidole (2), Kitson Gayle and Aaron Joseph got the goals which earned a 26th win in 28 league games for Canalside-based Bay, who have also won the West Riding FA and Huddersfield FA Challenge Cups.
Bay went behind to an early goal by Jamie Longley at Steeton, but the setback seemed to galvanise them.
They responded with three goals before half-time – Gayle, who got the second, now has 31 for the season – to take a firm grip of the game.
Bay now have 103 league goals for the season.
In Division I, Bay Reserves won 4-1 at home to Tyersal (Nathan James (2), Sam Jerome and Karl Jones scored) while AFC Emley won 6-1 at Dudley Hill through Jake Sanderson (2), Scott Hargreaves, Chris Prasher, Ashley Brothers and Keiron Donaldson.
In Division II, Huddersfield YMCA beat Tingley Athletic Reserves 7-1 with Richard Evans and Thomas Hall netting two apiece.
James Rayner’s hat trick and Brian Taylor’s double helped Marsden Reserves beat Hunsworth Reserves 6-1 in Division III.
