THE shock of the day was the first defeat of the season of West Riding County Trophy semi-finalists Town Boys by 2-0 to lowly Craven at Dryclough Rec.

The star for the home side was Carl Sykes, who bagged a double, and his manager Graeme Brennan said: “Everyone was up for it today and I’m very proud of the boys.”

The only blot on Craven’s copy book was the sending off of Gavin Connor for a second bookable offence, after he seemed to be harshly adjudged to have raised a foot.

The visitors had more chances, with Zaman Ullah fluffing many one-on-ones, but credit must go to Craven stand-in keeper Shane Kelly, who made several blocks and saves.

Leaders Waterloo BC suffered their third defeat of the season, when they lost 3-1 to revitalised Britannia Sports.

The home team could have been two up by the time Britannia opened the scoring and the chances kept coming for Waterloo, but their frontline failed to put the ball in the net.

Britannia extended their lead before Steven Campbell nodded one in from close range just before the half time interval.

The second half was all Waterloo, but chance after chance came and went, wayward shots, the woodwork and even Waterloo's own players blocking goal bound efforts.

The result means that it was more points dropped by the league One leaders, who are in a real bad slump at a vital time in the season. Britannia finished things off when a goalkeeping error gave them the third and the final goal of a frustrating day for Waterloo.”

Britannia Sports scorers were Doran Jordan, Kieran Lenihan and Alex Pearson.

Black Bull beat First Huddersfield 4 – 1 to strengthen their hold on 2nd place.

James Walter, Andy Brook and David Gill (2) notched for the victors.

Bull’s defence was very solid.

In Division II in-form sides HD One and Field Head met at LRPF and the result was a predictable 2-2 draw.

“Probably one of the more evenly matched games HD One have played this season, although with chances few and far between. Neither side could say they dominated the game in either half.

It was HD One that took the lead, when Ashford got his head onto a terrific Matthew Hanley cross.

The Field Head equaliser was a bit of a shame considering it was the third time their impressive centre half had rose unchallenged and third time unlucky as he powered his header into the net.

The second half was without much incident and finally kicked into life in the last 10 minutes, as first Martin slotted home another quality through ball from Hanley. All that was left was to keep the ball, but poor Sutton let a seemingly harmless free kick through his grasp. As soon as the ball was placed back on the spot the final whistle was blown.

Field Head conceded a scrappy goal early on, but levelled through Steven Thomson by half time.

The two sides then cancelled each other out for a long period, before an error by the visitors allowed HD One in to lead 2-1 with 5 minutes left.

Head then threw caution to the wind at the death and earned an equaliser through a free kick by Andy McKinley which was launched into the box, where the ball was misjudged by the HD One keeper and bounced passed him into the net.

That proved to be the last kick of the match.

Helion suffered another set back when they lost 3-2 to Woodfield Park at Almondbury High School.

In spite of having Adam Gallagher sent off, the visitors took the lead through Danny Zilia.

Helion levelled through Adam Stephenson, only for David Land to restore Park’s lead with an acrobatic strike.

The home side again equalised through Rob Kaye.

Ben Ackroyd grabbed the winner for Park after good work by Mark Bordman, who made a good cross from the by-line.

“Park played to their full potential for the first time this season” stated a Club representative.

Both sides had strong penalty claims turned down.
