HEYWOOD Irish Centre have recruited ex-Emley and Altrincham player Charlie Bradshaw as they gear up for the first round of the prestigious national FA Sunday Carlsberg Cup.
Bradshaw has been helping out manager Paul Quinn as well as watching his son, Lee, make a storming start to the season.
After success in the Huddersfield Sunday League and County Cup, Quinn is aiming to continue his side’s form when they take on Liverpool-based Home and Bargain at Syngenta on Sunday (2.15).
Irish Centre are Huddersfield’s sole representative in the first round and are hoping they can put on a good show on behalf of the town.
Player manager Quinn has a full compliment of players to select from for the tie and is more than happy with the additions at the club.
“We’ve added a couple of new faces to the squad and I am pleased with the squad we now have. We have a good reputation as a club and have been able to attract some strong players from the area.
“We have more than 100 players signed on for our five teams on a Saturday and Sunday and that is testament to the hard work the club has put in. This competition will not be the ultimate reflection on our season, we simply want to do ourselves and the Huddersfield area justice.”
Adam Wilson (Kirkburton FC) has also recently signed along with Tom Brown and Danny Carr (Bay Athletic).
Heywood Irish Centre’s opponents, Home and Bargain, have been equally successful as the Heywood side in recent years.
Last season they were crowned champions of the Liverpool Business League and are set to be difficult first round opponents.
“We are fully aware that there are no easy draws in the FA Sunday Cup. I have no doubt Home and Bargain will be a strong physical side and a team who will be difficult to break down. However, if we match them we have enough in our side to cause them as many problems going forward. We also have home advantage and a good vocal crowd will benefit us,” added Quinn.
The Heywood Irish Centre team will be wearing a brand new kit for the game which has been provided by the Lindley tapas restaurant, Bar Barcelona.
