ALMOST a full RCD League programme was played out and administrators were delighted a number of delayed cup games finally reached a conclusion.
Title-chasing Brighouse Town, beaten finalists in last years Under 13 Cup, took a step closer to another final with a narrow 2-1 victory at Gomersal in third round of the Under 14 competition.
James Bampton netted for Gomersal but replies from Luke Hill and Jordan Byrnes were just enough to send Town into a fourth-round meeting with Third Division promotion hopefuls Yorkshire Lions.
A revitalised Golcar United are putting up a strong challenge for the Under 16 Division I title this time but their Cup hopes were ended when title rivals Silkstone got the best of a penalty shoot-out.
Edward Wilson scored United’s goal as the sides finished 1-1 after extra-time but the home side were not so lucky from the penalty spot as Silkstone ran out 4-2 winners to book a place in the fourth round, where they will meet another title rival in the form of Yorkshire Lions.
YMCA Under 12s remain on course for a League and Cup double following a solid victory at fellow title candidates Howden Clough.
Bradley Hall, Alex Tattersley and Daniel Turnbull netted as YMCA secured a 3-1 win and a meeting with Longcroft Lions in round four.
Another competition managing to play out a number of games was the Huddersfield FA Minor Cup.
In the Under 11s, Linthwaite’s hopes of progress came to an end when the Second Division side were dumped out by Hepworth United.
Bayley Tyndall scored for Linthwaite but Hepworth’s First Division pedigree proved too much as Joshua Sedgewick and Adam Lockwood grabbed two each and Ben Clark grabbed a hat trick to book United’s place in the next round.
Unbeaten Linthwaite did their confidence no harm when the Fourth Division side crushed Third Division Hall Green to move into the next round of the Minor Under 13 Cup.
Conner Beaumont (4), Jack Hampshire (3), Zach Nash (3), Lewis Pinder, Fraser Harrison, and Zachriah Sandouk all got on the scoresheet to secure a comfortable 13-1 win for the Colne Valley side.
And Linthwaite will be joined by Netherton and YMCA
Jay Brogan-Ellis (2) and Joel Barker gave Netherton a 3-1 win over Lepton Highlanders while Yorkshire Lions were unable to find the net as Angus Maney (2) and Thomas Hughes scored to give YMCA a 3-0 victory.
In the Under 15 section, Dalton Dynamoes remain on course for a difficult-to-achieve treble of League, League Cup and Minor Cup with a solid win over Netherton. Joseph McKevitt, Luke Jackson, Jack Somerville and Carl David secured a 4-1 win for Dynamoes.
Another high-scoring team were Westend Under 15s. Opponents Upperthong were unable to find a reply as William Dickinson (2), Ashley Whitaker (2), Calum Westwood, Waqass Ali, Ryan Wilson, Joe Carroll, Anthony Garnett, an own goal and a Tom Haigh hat trick gave the Lions a 13-0 victory.
Two RCD League sides will be in County Cup semi-final action.
Tomorrow, Howden Clough take on Selby Town of the Selby Junior League for a place in the Under 12 final and, on Thursday, Salendine Nook-based Collegians play for a place in the final of the Under 14 competition against Whitkirk Wanderers of the Leeds Garforth League.
Both games kick off at 7.30 and will be played at the West Riding County FA Ground at Fleet Lane, Woodlesford, Leeds, LS26 8NX.
