KIRKBURTON’S hopes of steering their way out of the bottom two in the West Riding County Amateur League’s top flight came unstuck with a 1-0 home defeat by Campion.

However, they produced a good performance against the Bradford side who came to Hallas Road looking to fire up their push for the top spot, having games in hand on the teams above them.

A tight opening 20 minutes produced some good play but few chances and Campion were first to go close with striker Joe Brown firing a shot narrowly wide, before Jordan Tindle went close for Burton.

The second half saw Campion push the pace and they gained the lead following a corner on 53 minutes.

Kirkburton battled back and were to have two appeals for penalties waved away by the referee, but they were still working hard to keep Campion out with keeper Dan Armitage doing well – and when he was beaten Liam Gill got back to clear one goalbound effort off the line.
