GOLCAR Con are the first winners of the Armitage Leisure Supplementary Cup.

But they were made to work hard for their 3-1 win over Club Kirkheaton in the final of the Learner Driver Training Centre Sunday League competition at Longfield Avenue.

Underdogs Kirkheaton, who have punched well above their weight in this cup, took a third-minute lead through Daniel Cooke, who latched onto a beautifully-weighted through ball and rifled it home.

Con took a while to recover from this early blow, and when they did get finally into their stride, had much the better percentage of possession without anything to show for it – until the 29th minute.

Following a corner and a scramble, Danny Stocker forced home the equaliser.

Kirkheaton had defended strongly, but just before half-time, their resistance was again breached as Con took the lead through skipper Jamie Dickinson, who headed in from a corner.

Con continued to cause most of the problems in the vital areas, and Kirkheaton keeper Chris Hinchliffe made a couple of good saves to keep his side in it.

But in the final minute following a goalmouth scramble, veteran Chris Green forced home the clincher.

Kirkheaton centre-back Richard Woodward was voted man of the match.
