AFC EMLEY remain just four points off the top of the Northern Counties East League Division I despite a 4-2 defeat at Barton Town Old Boys.

As a team, Ian Banks’ side turned in their poorest defensive display of the season and were behind to a Ryan Morton goal on 10 minutes.

Barton continued to dominate the first half and went further ahead on 42 minutes through Hadyn Barnett.

Emley’s hopes were raised with a Steve Kenworthy goal two minutes later, but Barton resumed control at the start of the second half with a header from unmarked Barnett.

Declan Marshall put Barton 4-1 up on the hour mark and it wasn’t until 10 minutes from time that Emley started to frame, with substitute Mark Brady dictating the play.

Mick Amos netted for Emley on 87 minutes and they then hit the woodwork before Lee Williamson missed a great chance close in.

Emley visit Hemsworth MW in the league on Saturday.
