HEYWOOD Irish Centre bounced back from their County FA Sunday Cup final disappointment to grab their third trophy of the season.

They retained the Huddersfield District FA Sunday Challenge Cup with a 4-2 success over Lindley WMC at YMCA’s Laund Hill ground.

The deadlock was broken on the half hour when Marlon Adams was brought down by Heywood keeper Brendan Shanahan and Graham McLachlan put away the spot kick, but the Irish were soon level when a mix up in the Lindley defence allowed Ashley Flynn to tap in.

Lindley got their noses back in front before the interval when a shot came back off the bar and McLachlan was first to react and bag his second goal of the game. However, the second half turned into something of a disaster for Lindley.

Heywood’s got back on terms on 52 minutes when Matt Tattersley fired home.

Nine minutes later Tattersley again found himself left unhindered by the Lindley defence and put Heywood in front for the first time.

Lindley struggled to get back on terms and the Irish wrapped up the victory late on when Darren Henighan scored with an excellent effort that he celebrated with a double somersault.
