AIMBRY are on a rebuilding mission.

And the early signs are that it is going well.

The Almondbury High School-based side have won their opening three games and are sitting pretty at the top of Division II in the Works League.

Not only that, but there is a new spirit in a side who came dangerously close to folding in the summer.

Last season, Aimbry fielded two sides in the District League – one of them in the top flight.

But they were struggling for numbers towards the end of the 2007-08 campaign and it was decided to carry on with just one side.

Club official Jason Reid said: “We decided to enter the Works League and we have got the nucleus of the side which started the club a few years ago. They enjoy playing for Aimbry.”

They began with a difficult fixture against Sovereign Sports and followed that with victories over Springhead and Upperthong.

Another new club are Lepton Highlanders and they are hoping for good things with their first foray into the Works League for many years.

Several players in the Lepton colours have turned out for the club over many seasons, but they also have several promising youngsters and could well have a big influence as the season unfolds.

Works League players have been urged to support the new refereeing initiative on jewellery.

All jewellery – including plain wedding rings – must now be removed and cannot be taped over, under new instructions from the FA from October 1.

League chairman Aidan Hopson said: “It is a ruling and it is simple; players wearing jewellery cannot take part in games.

“I would urge all clubs and all players to get into the habit of taking off all jewellery from the start, so we can develop good habits.”
