LEPTON Highlanders moved 12 points clear at the top of the West Riding County Amateur League First Division thanks to a 4-2 win at Westbrook YMCA.

Former Bay pair Paul Pyke and Kitson Gayle were on the scoresheet as the match at Lawnswood in Leeds beat the weather.

Ash Flynn and Tom Mitchell were the other scorers for Jimmy Martin’s men, who are chasing successive promotions.

Gav Armitage got the goal as AFC Emley Reserves beat Wakefield City 1-0 in a Welfare Ground match played Friday.

Emley’s first team, who were without a match at the weekend, go to Doncaster side Askern Villa for a Northern Counties East League Cup second-round tie tonight (7.45). A home clash with Premier Division Brighouse Town, managed by former Emley player Paul Quinn, awaits the winners.

While Emley, chasing a first win in nine games, are 12th in the First Division, Askern are 19th.

Kirkburton will make another attempt to play their Sheffield and Hallamshire FA Challenge Cup third-round clash at Gleadless on Saturday (1.00) after the tie was postponed because of waterlogging at the weekend.
