LEPTON kept up their hopes of promotion from Division II of the West Riding County Amateur League with a 7-0 home win against Steeton Reserves.

Jimmy Martin’s side have games in hand on all their rivals and yet are only five points behind second-placed West Horton.

The home side made a lively start with the two Flynns, JP and Ash, going close.

Some of Lepton’s play was a delight to watch and the first goal came on 20 minutes with Gaz Garside pulling the strings in midfield and, when he fed Greg Mitchell, he was able to put over a cross for Anthony Haigh to head in from close range.

Ross Martin and Jamie Instone set up Haigh on 25 minutes to calmly bend the ball inside the far post and, five minutes later, it was 3-0 when a superb crossfield pass was headed home by Tom Mitchell.

Five minutes before the break Lepton extended their lead to four when a free-kick for Steeton on the edge of the home box broke to Ash Flynn. He passed 40 yards for JP to beat two men before rounding the keeper to fire home.

Haigh completed his hat trick on 54 minutes with a shot from 18 yards and Lepton made it six after 72 minutes, Ash Flynn and Will Hinchliffe combining to set up Haigh for a close-range finish.

The final goal came six minutes from time when JP Flynn put over a terrific cross for full-back Stephen Brown to score with an overhead kick.
