DIVISION II Netherton are celebrating a place in the Barlow Cup final.

They defeated Division I Newsome WMC 3-2 in the first semi-final and will meet either Hepworth or Honley in the showpiece (their semi at Marsden was postponed).

Dean Wharam gave Netherton the lead after just three minutes.

Early in the second half, Wharam was put through and he made it 2-0. Seven minutes later, however, Newsome were back in the game.

Netherton defender James Buckley committed a foul and was sent off and, from the free-kick, Anthony Haigh drilled home to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Netherton extended their lead again to 3-1 when Matthew Kilner headed home from a corner.

This time Newsome’s reply came within a minute. Doran Jordan was brought down in the box and Haigh scored his second, but that was the last of the scoring so Netherton progress to the final.

The other semi-final between Hepworth and Honley has been re-arranged for Saturday at Marsden (2.00).
