NEWSOME WMC struck a blow for the District League by dumping West Riding County Amateur opponents Marsden out of the Huddersfield FA Challenge Cup.

And their exciting 4-3 quarter-final triumph was even sweeter as it came at the Fall Lane home of their rivals.

Newsome, who lead the District League by five points from defending champions Lepton Highlanders, had Maturine, Haigh, Brown and Bradshaw on target.

And they could face another County Amateur side in the semis, with Huddersfield YMCA visiting District League Netherton, who beat New Mill 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the outstanding third-round tie.

Lamb Inn, pushing for promotion to the District League top flight, are also through to the last four of the FA Challenge Cup.

With goals from Reynolds (2), Hanson and Donaldson, they beat District First Division side Shepley 4-2.

Lamb will now take on either Golcar United or Bay Athletic.

The all-County Amateur League tie was postponed on Saturday.

The FA Challenge Trophy semi-finals are taking shape after wins for the reserve teams of Britannia Sports, Uppermill and Diggle.

The first two face each other in the last four after Britannia beat Works League side Moldgreen 5-0 and Uppermill won 7-2 at Netherton B.

Diggle defeated Shepley Reserves 6-1 and now await the winners of the outstanding quarter-finals between Newsome’s second string and Lepton Highlanders Reserves/
