IRISH Centre retained the Rollinson Cup – then set their sights on a Sunday League double.

A 4-2 final victory over Marsh Lib supplied their first piece of silverware this season.

And having chalked up big midweek wins over Kirkheaton (8-1) and Leeds Road Wanderers (6-1), their ambitions of a third successive league title are very much alive.

While Irish Centre are third, six points behind leaders Rose and Crown and just one behind Lindley WMC, they have three games in hand on both the top two.

They set a high tempo in their Rollinson showdown at Laund Hill, creating three chances in the first 10 minutes.

But Marsh got back into the game, and went close through Ben Roys before Billy Callaghan put them ahead in the 23rd minute with a shot from just inside the area.

Irish Centre were denied by an excellent block from keeper Richard Heywood, but got back into the game on the half hour thanks to a disputed penalty put away by Adam Bell.

There were half-chances at both ends in the opening stages of the second half before Nick Jaggar’s close-range header from a corner put Irish Centre 2-1 up.

And on the hour, Darren Henighan increased the lead with a well-taken goal.

After three near misses, Marsh pulled one back in the 80th minute through Andy Hirst.

But as they pushed for an equaliser, Henighan broke away to fire home an injury-time clincher.

Marsh midfielder Gary Robinson was named man of the match.
