TOWN Ladies suffered a second defeat in as many North-East Regional Women’s League Premier Division matches when they went down 6-3 at Whitley Bay.
While Town were more impressive than in their opening 6-2 defeat by St Francis 2000, the North-Easterners were a constant threat and keeper Laura Carter was kept busy.
Jordaine Allison and Kate Mallin both went close in the first half, but Town, trailing from midway through, then conceded three shortly before the break to go in 4-0 down for the second successive game.
Kate Barnes was brought on for the second half and had an immediate effect, winning a penalty which Emma Poole put away.
Whitley Bay made it 5-1 soon after, but Town kept plugging away and Barnes forced an own goal.
The busy striker won a second penalty on 70 minutes, giving Poole a second goal, but the home side added a sixth to seal the points.
Barnes and Chloe Newton Mann were voted joint players of the match.
Whitley Bay are now second in the table to Sheffield United, who lead the way on goal difference after a thumping 13-1 home win over basement side Ossett Albion.
Town, who are ninth out of 11 teams, have their first home match of the season against Barnsley at Emley on Sunday (2.00).
The reserve and junior leagues also get under way, with the seconds taking on West Leeds at Grange Moor (2.00).
The Under 16s face Pool at Grange Moor (10.30) while the Under 14s go to York (10.30).
