TOWNGATE ended Huddersfield Irish Centre’s treble hopes as they beat them 3-2 in the Huddersfield FA Sunday Challenge Cup final.

Irish Centre, who had already won the Sunday League title and Rollinson Cup, went ahead in the second minute at Woodfield Park, when Anthony Haigh crashed the ball home.

Heavy Woollen side Towngate had two goals disallowed before they notched twice in as many minutes just before half-time.

First Steve Richards headed them level, then Danny Naidole forced the ball home after a goalmouth scramble.

Irish levelled with a deflected free-kick in the 57th minute.

But Towngate pushed forward again and Naidole hit a post before firing another chance wide.

The winner finally came in the 83rd minute, when former Irish Centre ace Ashley Flynn, who had come on as a substitute, forced the ball home.

Towngate’s Daniel Facey was man of the match.
